Bridget-ism: “So here’s the rule: If you want food to taste good, you have to season it before cooking. Adding salt and pepper to food after it’s already been cooked may make a sauce taste great, but its going to do little to flavor the meat.”

A big congratulations to Jill O., from Barnesville, MN (pictured above)! She is the tenth and final finalist who has a chance at winning a trip to America’s Test Kitchen and a day of cooking with Bridget. As a finalist, she has also won a 60-day enrollment to the America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School.
Jill writes: My mom always had the patience to let me help with supper when I was a kid. Browning the meat, cutting the onion up, adding the spices. I loved spending time with her like this. The bigger joy of cooking came mostly after college. Mom got me a subscription to Cook’s Illustrated, and cooking really took on new meaning. Cooking was science! About this time I started having dinner parties for my friends. I now loved cooking so much I thought about cooking school, but realized the joy came more specifically from cooking for people I loved. Now a mom, cooking has also become quality time spent with my son. My 3 year old boy now likes helping me in the kitchen. I want to make sure that when my son looks back on his childhood, he thinks, “Man, my mom could really cook”. So, there’s no time to waste!
Congrats again, Jill!

A big congratulations to Dana Z. from Haddonfield, NJ (pictured above)! She is the ninth finalist (of ten) who has a chance at winning a trip to America’s Test Kitchen and a day of cooking with Bridget. As a finalist, she has also won a 60-day enrollment to the America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School.
Dana writes: My grandmother Eleanor Voros was renowned for her Eastern European cooking, having been taught by her mother-in-law who was once a Cook for a noble family in Budapest. Grandma was even once featured in her local newspaper in the 1950’s as their “Cook of the Week!” I never lived close enough to her to learn her techniques first-hand, but when she passed away last year at 93, I inherited her recipe file and her aprons, one of which I am wearing in this picture while preparing Thanksgiving dinner in an attempt to channel her presence in my kitchen! For years I have depended on Bridget and the rest of the Test Kitchen to guide me in my kitchen, but especially now that I can’t even pick up the phone to ask Grandma about proper dough consistency.
Congrats again, Dana!

A big congratulations to Ian S. from Napa, CA (pictured above)! He is the eighth finalist (of ten) who has a chance at winning a trip to America’s Test Kitchen and a day of cooking with Bridget. As a finalist, he has also won a 60-day enrollment to the America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School.
Ian writes: My mother is a fabulous cook and growing up, family gatherings, milestones and celebrations were always around amazing meals. Moving out on my own 10 years ago, I began to explore cooking for myself and, slowly but surely, improved my skills to go from frozen meals and foil packets to—as my mom called them—homemade “epicurean delights”! America’s Test Kitchen’s cookbooks were my mentors, and although I used to snub cookbooks that didn’t have full-color-photos on every page to guide me, I found that America’s Test Kitchen’s research, techniques and explanations taught me so much more than just how to cook a single dish. As a nonprofit professional (and teacher at my core), I have shared what I learn about cooking (and the tasty results!) with friends, family and the youth that I work with. I would absolutely cherish (and share) the opportunity to learn to cook with Bridget and ATK!
Congrats again, Ian!
