We Hear They Recently Added More Hops To it: Bitterness in beer is measured in IBUs, or International Bitterness Units. A recent crop of beers have popped up with IBUs over 50, 70, and even 90. If you’re not a beer connoisseur and these numbers don’t mean much to you, here’s a benchmark: Most domestic beers, like Miller, Budweiser, and Coors, have IBU levels of around 12-15. The Green Flash West Coast IPA, with an IBU of 95? It certainly hops off the charts.
