Does the Fork You Eat with Affect How Much You Enjoy Your Meal?: Data from a recent Oxford University study suggests that yes, it does. Fifty participants used either a stainless steel or a metallic plastic spoon to eat vanilla yogurt; the study found that the levels of enjoyment were higher for those who used the steel spoon. The researchers suggest that the perceived quality and the temperature of cutlery affects flavor enjoyment. Though let’s be serious, it was vanilla yogurt. A metal spoon over a plastic spoon would excite us, too, if that’s what we were eating.
