Moonshine Shines On: The Recent Renaissance: There’s been a national resurgence of moonshine recently, the illicitly distilled liquor for which The South is famous. Gen X-ers such as Cory Bradford, owner of the Howling Moon Moonshine company, have taken up the mantle from ancestors who made ‘shine out of corn that they couldn’t get to market. Distillers used to sell the alcohol without a permit and without paying taxes on the proceeds; if caught, they faced years in prison. Now, however, legal moonshine has been featured more and more in trendy bars and restaurants across the country. And fortunately for those who love the potent booze, they won’t face jail time anymore, just a potentially penitent hangover.
