Food Poisoning, A Thing of the Past?: A little over two years ago Congress passed a bill called the Food Safety Modernization Act, which became law in 2011. However, as things often do in Washington, the bill got stalled by bureaucratic proceedings. Today the administration finally published a proposed set of regulations that include protocols for fresh produce and processed food, hygiene standards for equipment used with fruits and vegetables, and sanitation procedures for farm workers. We say it’s about time, seeing as the last time the nation’s food safety laws were updated was in the 1930s.
