Lab-Grown Meat? It’s Happening: Many people don’t eat meat because animals must be killed to produce it, a fact that often results in animal cruelty and soaring energy costs. A team of scientists at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, however, hope to end the trend with meat grown in labs. While an artificial steak is still a far ways off, pizza toppings are closer, and Dr. Mark Post originally promised that the first hamburger would be done by the end of 2012 (as of publication, however, it was still on the back burner). So who knows, maybe someday soon diners the world over could be enjoying meat guilt-free for the first time.
