Californians Vote Against Labeling GMO Food: In last night’s highly contentious election, Californians defeated Proposition 37, the genetically engineered foods labeling initiative, which is unprecedented in any other state. Opponents argued that this would increase the prices of the labeled foods, while supporters said consumers have a right to know whether food has been genetically altered. And despite the result, the discussion will continue. “We showed that there is a food movement in the United States, and it is strong, vibrant and too powerful to stop,” said Prop 37 spokeswoman Stacy Melken.
